2015 RePlay: Paper Mache Bodice or Bustier for Barbie

These paper mache bodice tops for Barbie are a cute project that only requires some newspaper (or the ads that come in the mail) and some white glue. Wrap the doll's body in plastic wrap, then cover that with the wet paper, shaping it as you go. It will take a day or two to dry completely. Once you cut it from the doll it can be trimmed with scissors to shape, and then it can be painted, covered in stickers, or decorated any way desired.

I decided to paint the bodice white,
and sprinkled clear glitter all over the wet paint for a little bling😎
The frilly gold trim was in my stash
and matched the gold thread in her jeans well.

✂Paper Mache Bodice for Barbie
  1. Completely cover Barbie in plastic wrap, wrapping it as tightly against her body as you can.
  2. Cut strips of paper about 1/2" wide (I used newspaper).
  3. Dip the paper into a mixture of 1 part white glue to 1/2 part water. Start wrapping the paper around the doll's body. Completely cover the top making  a few layers of paper. (Note: the pics are after I already trimmed all of the plastic away from the top.)
  4. Allow the paper to dry at least 48 hours. Cut a slit up the back of the bodice, remove it from the doll, remove the plastic from the bodice and trim the bodice into the shape you want.
  5. At this point you can either decoupage some fabric over the paper and allow that to dry, or carefully remove it from the doll and paint the paper.
  6. I left my back open, you could make holes and tie up the back closure if you'd like.
  7. Project was originally posted on Happier Than A Pig In Mud in January of 2015.

Make something just for fun and have a happy day😉
