New Purchase -BMR 1959 Man Bun Ken Doll -Thoughts...

Please allow me to start this post by saying, I am not a big fan of this new modern BMR "edgy" look for Barbie and Ken dolls. That's probably why it took me so long to get one of these dolls. ~But~ with the second generation being released the price has gone down on the first six dolls, add in some credit card points (read: free money:@), and that brought the price down to a Walmart doll, so I ordered one. I wanted a poseable male, that gave me two options. While I'm tickled with the lime green haired one (and might get him eventually), I chose this one.

Say Hi to the nice people Ken...
 Thank you

As for articulation, this is written up as a made-to-move doll, and I have to say, he is wonderful to pose! Absolutely perfect. Even better than the lesser priced female made-to-move dolls I've picked up at the store. I really like the build and muscles too, he has a very nice body😎 Thank you again for that, um... smug look, Ken...

Accessories: The basketball shorts are fine, I can use them for pics, sandals are cute and the fanny pack is nice to have for male and female dolls. Sandals and fanny pack are made from a softer, bendable plastic. My glasses came with a flaw on the left side, not sure how that will look in pics. The hoodie sweatshirt... It's crazy big. The arms covered the hands by about an inch and it has to be pulled over the doll's head to remove (no velcro). So big I might think about trying to sell it to bring the cost of my doll down even more.

Now, that hair, my biggest issue with this doll... Love-love-love the flocking on the sides! The man bun action? Um, not so much. I've seen other doll bloggers release the bun and straighten the hair into a ponytail. I have a military background, I'd LOVE to cut the hair on top short and somehow make it stand up straight like a flat top haircut. But I don't want to mess up the doll. Sooooo, at this time, I'll leave him as is, but once the bun gets messy... All bets are off😉

As for the fun box, tissue paper and packaging, it's cool but... I'm not a collector, just a person that's been having fun playing with dolls...

Overall, I'm tickled with this new doll. He's much more handsome in person and it's nice to have a fully articulated male that's Barbie branded!

~Get it if it makes you smile and have a happy day!

  1. Howdy, I served in the Air Force just out of high school. I agree with you, this body type seems more like the GI Joes. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Witaj🤗
    Pozdrawiam Cie serdecznie😃

  5. I don't understand, why they can't make a normal Ken doll(any shade) with that body on a regular basis. I'm with you, not so crazy about the hair/edginess/clothes, but I WANT those bodies!!! great photos, Lynn!
