A big window and larger statement pieces of framed art will help fill in the space nicely,
I'm working on that...

The right wall (in looking at the house) is covered in brick scrapbook paper. I have a soft spot for brick and other natural looking surfaces. This kind of turns the house into a brownstone type look to me. As time goes on (and especially at Christmas), I see a fireplace against the wall? We'll see. Added bonus, that piece of wall can be removed and used as the backdrop for close-up photos in single doll posts.
The floor... I like the white washed board look, only needed to add a full size area rug to cover the purple and green stamped on one. I picked up a bamboo color blocked placemat for $2 and think this works well for now. The options are limitless and will be changed out periodically.
As for the cutouts for the stairs and elevator, I decided to leave them open to simply allow more light for photos, and try to just shoot around them. If there's one thing I've learned in 11+ years of blogging (with a point and shoot camera), it's that every-little-bit-of-light-helps. And I never know, maybe there will be a scene where I want a light shining down into the livingroom from that upper angle.
So that's my update for now, you can see the original house #1 post here. Kinda funny, a doll house is proving to be just as much work as a real house! But at least I don't have to worry about plumbing😯 Stay tuned...
Hi, Lynn...I know what you mean about leaving the graphics, I actually left mine in the townhouse by using removable tacky tape on my 'wall papers'. Using foamcore is great when you don't have a lot of windows/built-ins to cut around. Fun and your guy looks perfect in the 'funky' living room ...Grins, Sandi

DeleteHi Lynn! This is Phyllis from A Day In The Life Of My Dolls. I think this is actually my first real visit to your blog. I love what you did with your house and I have been working on some of my own. For the newer Kid Kraft doll houses, I was thinking of also using the foam core board to place over the walls and the cover with a wall paper or paint to give them a modern look. Glad I could see it here first as it looks like it worked out really well!
ReplyDeleteHello, the only downside, if you use glue the boards do warp a bit... So the white wall worked out great, the brick did bend a bit, but good enough for my purposes.
DeleteThanks for stopping by:@)
